*****FINALE SPOILERS******
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 1:23 PMYeah, I was a little let down by the finale. I liked that the message was clear across the board; the game is King. I wanted satisfaction by having Marlo dead but Slim taking out Cheese was good enough. I didnt see Michael slipping into Omar's shoes but in hindsight it was perfect. He had a sense of code and was a man without a country. I'm glad i was right about Bubs and disappointed that i was about Dukie taking his place. It amused me that all three phases of the game's players on the 'respectable' side; cops, paper and politicians, were all so enmeshed in the power driven decision making regarding the homeless case that none dared flinch. i hate that the yuppie prick at the paper won acclaim but I'm relatively sure he'll fall harder later in his career elsewhere. And finally, McNaulty's wake wrapped up the trilogy of prequels forwarning the deaths of Joe, Omar and either McNaulty or Bunk.
I guess it could've gone out with more of a bang but i dont think it would've held true to either the character's personalities, the Game or the premise of the show. -

Re: THE WIRE FINALE
Tue, March 11, 2008 - 12:32 PMI definitely need to watch it again, particularly the montage @ the end when McNulty stops on the bridge heading into Baltimore.
until then, a couple random thoughts:
Dukie-as-Bubs and Michael-as-Omar was a whoaaa moment that didn't hit me until I was lying in bed that night. So fucking sad, particularly Dukie.
I appreciated the inclusion of Marlo bailing on the wheeler/dealer schmoozefest to head down to the street and thug out for a second. This is not another Stringer Bell.
Is it just me, or did Daniels' character just turn into Captain PermaGlare in those last few episodes?
I'm glad McNulty didn't end up literally dead. I thought the wake was a fitting goodbye. -

Re: THE WIRE FINALE
Tue, March 11, 2008 - 12:36 PMmy main problem is that this ending was too similar to the Oz ending in that it all carries on with new faces and different names for things. i mean, it's reasonable, but MONTAGE THIS -

Re: THE WIRE FINALE

Re: THE WIRE FINALE
Tue, March 11, 2008 - 4:58 PMYeah whatever. The wire didnt have anal rape every other episode, unlike Oz. You could set your watch to the man love. All you needed to make it a gay prison musical version of westside story was rita moreno... oh wait... -
-
Re: THE WIRE FINALE
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 9:01 AMSorry, but Oz had a far higher ratio of anal rape than 1:2.
The Wire is ten times the show Oz was, but like someone else mentioned, it felt like two episodes crammed into the final montage. -

Re: THE WIRE FINALE
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 10:04 AMI was just glad they at least gave us a 90 minute finale. That alone broke standard HBO protocol. The montage didnt bother me. Sopranos sorta got me used to that. -

Re: THE WIRE FINALE
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 10:23 AMi would love to see a wire montage based around the song "still the one" by shania twain.

the wire did a montage at the end of every season anyway. this one just tied up more lose ends than the usual. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
